Historical advice — do not apply
The old guide instructed consumers to expect a retry every 30 seconds forever, including after authorization errors. This advice is intentionally retained as a contradiction scenario. It expired on 17 October 2026 and must not be used to design a consumer.
The current policy wins
The replacement allows five attempts in total with delays of 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes and 2 hours. Authorization errors pause delivery and 429 respects Retry-After. Always cite the replacement's effective date when resolving a conflict between these documents.
